A Hidden Oasis…{Bonnie + Estevan, Pala Mesa Resort Wedding Photographer, Fallbrook}

Bonnie and Estevan got married over at Pala Mesa Resort out in Fallbrook, CA.  Pala Mesa Resort is this perfect little hidden oasis right off the freeway.  The resort is every photographer’s dream location with an endless array of amazing spots for portraits.   What made the day even better was having a couple like Bonnie and Estevan.  They were the sweetest, most caring, funny and adorable couples ever! They had such a great group of family and friends celebrating their day with them that even we were bummed out with the reception was over!!  We literally did not want the day to end.

One of our favorite of their ceremony was after Bonnie and Estevan’s first kiss as husband and wife they got to ring the bell on top of the bell tower.

5 Ways to Create the Perfect Photo for Invitations!

Our couples ask us all the time if we have any tips for them to keep in mind when preparing for their engagement session.  They want to create that perfect photo for their ‘Save the Date’ or wedding invitations to share with their family and friends.  So, we came up with our top 5 ways to ensure just that!!

1- Location

Pick a location that fits your style and personalities.  You definitely want to feel comfortable wherever you choose because the more comfortable you feel the more natural you will look in front of the camera.  If you know you don’t like large crowds of people watching you then choosing a less crowded or secluded location like a ravine or hiking trail will help make you feel a little more at ease.  Another thing to take into consideration is the style and theme of your wedding.  You’re not going to want to shoot your photos in the middle of a field with cowboy boots if you are planning a ballroom wedding at the Ritz Carlton.

2- Outfit

Make sure to wear something that makes you feel AMAZING!!  Dress up (think guest at a wedding) but  don’t try and force yourself into something that you are self-conscious about.  If the dress feels too short and you will be tugging at it the entire time then it totally not worth the stress no matter how cute it is.  Same rule applies for the guys! Consider having two outfits…one more casual than the other so that you have tons of options.  Also, don’t be afraid to use different colors and patterns in your outfits.

3- Makeup

Engagement sessions are the perfect opportunity to have your trial run with your make-up artist for your wedding day.  Cameras will wash out your make-up so it is totally okay to be on the heavy side with it.  You are going to want your eyes to pop in your photos and a great make-up artist will know exactly how to keep you looking natural while giving you enough make-up for the camera.

4-  Tell your Photographer

Make sure to tell your photographer your intentions for your photos.  Many invitation designs require there to be negative (or empty) space in the pictures for the text.  If you tell your photographer ahead of time they can make sure to a variety of images from many different perspectives.

5- Posing

At the end of the day- your engagement session is a celebration on you getting married so have fun with it!!  There should be lots of fun pictures of you all giggling, kissing, walking away and looking at each other.  The pictures where you aren’t necessarily looking at the camera and are more playful/natural looking tend to translate into epic invitation photos so don’t count those ones out just because you aren’t looking the camera.

6- Now What?! (Bonus Tip!)

Now that you have to perfect picture for you photo invitation or save the date be sure to check out companies like Paperless Post for your invitation needs.  Not only do they offer a huge community for inspiration and ideas but they also give you both digital and paper invitation options.

Happy Planning!!

Nicole and Nick met in high school and have been dating for 10 years!!  It was such a blast photographing the two of them and we just love they way they ‘get’ each other.    They are funny, easy-going and all around great people.  We cannot wait for their wedding over at Wilson Creek Winery this fall.

Every Square Inch…{Brittany + Jay, Lake Skinner Temecula Engagement Session Photographer}

Brittany and Jay wanted to have their engagement session over at Lake Skinner here in Temecula.  We were so excited to shoot there because we absolutely LOVE every square inch of that place.  From the tall trees, open meadows and beautiful lake…you really can’t go wrong.  The entire time we literally just laughed with the two of them.  They are such a great couple and have such a fun relationship.  The highlight of the entire session was when we accidentally spooked an enormous owl that flew out of its nest about a foot from our faces.  We all jumped not knowing what it was at first.  So, it would probably be more accurate to say that the owl spooked us.  It was the biggest bird we had ever seen up close and like Lake Skinner…it was beautiful.

Brittany even brought along a few props for them to use during their session.  She packed the cutest picnic basket complete with mini wine bottles from the winery that they are going to be getting married at.

Then after Lake Skinner, we headed over to the orange groves to finish out time together.

Thank you all so much for choosing us to share in your special day!!  We can’t wait for your wedding this fall!!!

Pin It To Win It…Winners! {Annabel + Josh, Temecula Winery Engagement Session}

Remember that Pinterest contest that we were a part of with Michelle Garibay Events ??  Where couples had to tour Circle Oak Ranch and pin their dream wedding on pinterest for a chance to win a free wedding??  Well, the winners were announced and it was JOSH AND ANNABEL!!

Josh and Annabel met in high school their junior year.  One day, he asked if he could get a ride home and when she dropped him off he asked what her plans were over spring break and handed her his number and suggested that they hang out.  Long story short they hung out a couple times over the break and eventually dated for 3 months before Josh asked her on his doorstep, “So are you my girlfriend?”

In That Moment…{Melissa + Andrew, Ponte Winery Temecula Wedding Photographer}

Melissa and Andrew got married over at Ponte Winery.  Their day was romantic and fun and whimsical and exquisite…it was all things that every wedding should be.

Our favorite part of their day happened during the first look.  Melissa was standing at the top of the stairs with Andrew waiting down below.  When we told Andrew to turn around to see his bride he literally ran to up the stairs to her out of excitement and kissed her.  It was seriously one of the sweetest first looks that we have ever done and gives us yet another reason why first looks are so amazing.  If Andrew had seen Melissa for the first time coming down the aisle…his reaction would have had to be different.  In that moment he couldn’t have run to her…he couldn’t have embraced her…he couldn’t have kissed her but because of the first look…in that moment he could.

When the guests started to arrive we tucked Melissa away so that no one would see her and we could start the ceremony.
